Toilet Refurbishment Bullring Shopping Centre
The Bullring Shopping Centre in Birmingham is one of the busiest UK retail centres outside London. In recent years it has undergone a transformation, embracing cutting edge architectural styles to become a genuinely contemporary 21st century shopping destination. In line with this ongoing process the managers of the centre, Hammersons Plc, wanted to refurbish the toilets in the centre to bring them in line with the high-end, upmarket ambience being offered elsewhere.
They turned to Hatmet to deliver this project safe in the knowledge that we would be able to offer the luxury finish being sought, whilst delivering on time and in budget and operating successfully within a working retail environment.
The toilets in question were bespoke, designed by Hatmet working from initial drawings by the architects Amalgam. The fact that the budget for the project was £1m gives a clear indication of the quality that was being envisioned, with the brief demanding a finish on a par with that usually found in a 5 star hotel.
The successful delivery of the project reinforced Hatmets’ ability to utilise a well-established supply chain in order to source highly specific materials at short notice, as well as its’ expertise in working on a project through every stage – from design, through pre-construction to delivery.
The bespoke washstands and the walls of the toilet were clad throughout in marble pattern porcelain tiles, whilst the cubicle doors and partitions featured a diamond white gold pattern on fused metal which had to be imported specifically for this project from the USA. All of the equipment in the toilets met the highest specifications and was fully automated, creating the perfect blend of aesthetic form and convenient function. New lighting throughout completed the transformation and the toilets included a changing area and toilet facility able to accommodate a user and up to two carers.
