University of Southampton

The Mountbatten Building, part of the University of Southampton campus, is an award winning building which was originally constructed using cutting edge Silicon fabrication technology. When work on the interior was required the University turned to Hatmet, working with architects Jestico + Whiles to deliver a 40 week project with a value of £2m. The work we undertook on the project involved the full range of our specialisms and included partitioning, joinery and exterior works.

Utilising our established supply chains we provided specialist finishes such as polished plaster and silk inter-layer glass, creating a new reception desk, transforming the reception area around it and refitting four floors of office space. Larger scale work included the installation of a cantilever based viewing gallery in the winter garden, the fitting of integrated fire and security shutters, the creating of bespoke metal framework and external rendering.

Together with a toilet fit out, the project as a whole demonstrated how the multi-disciplinary nature of the Hatmet team, allied to an extensive supply chain steeped in the Hatmet ethos, allows us to fully deliver on client expectations.
